POST SEASON GAME RECAPS:
PANTHERS-48    TERRAPINS-34    2/28/02
With the unrelenting support of his teammates behind him, Joel Davidson led the Panthers to victory in the Middle League Championship game.   Davidson powered the Panthers with his 25 pts. and dominance under the boards in this hard fought contest.   The score remained tied at halftime, but the Panthers were again able to put together a strong second half of play by dominating on the boards and buckling down on defense.   Besides Davidson, other scorers for the Panthers were Jared Carter and David Anglin (1 pt.), Ben Weaver (8 pts.), Kyle Hutchinson (2 pts.), Matt Hopkins (5 pts.) and Luke Alexander (4 pts.).   Weaver did a great job following his shot and Carter played outstanding defense and helped contain Prica.   Luke Alexander played his best game of the season and Dan LaLumiere and Chris Poore hustled all game long.
The Terrapins kept the game close with outstanding defense and some excellent passing.   They were led by the aggessive play of Josh Prica (11 pts.) and some good outside shooting by Danny McCaslin (8 pts.). Justin McLauren added 7 pts. to the effort.   Other scorers for the Terps were A.J. Witcher (4 pts.) and Zach Parker and Kyle Howard, each with 2 pts. The Panthers were successful in controlling the key and keeping drives by Prica, McCaslin and McLaurin to a minimum.
Congratulations to the Terps, the most improved team in the Middle League, for being great competitors and to the Panthers for playing tough, team ball all season long!

PANTHERS-42    CAVALIERS-34
The Panthers eeked out a victory over a Cavs team that refused to be rattled by their opponent's defensive effort. The Cavs remained unflappable and steady throughout the game, mostly due to an inpenatrable low post defense and good team play. They held the lead throughout most of the first half of play and it wasn't until a 3rd quarter surge by the Panthers that the lead changed hands by a slim 2 pts. Again, it was the tenacious play of Joel Davidson that tipped this game in favor of the Panthers. Davidson (18 pts.) had his hands full with Karlos Llanos (6pts.), but nonetheless made his presence known in the paint. Kyle Hutchinson (5 pts.) had perhaps his best game to date, playing outstanding defense and always managing to be at the right place at the right time. Five other Panthers were in the scoring column; Jared Carter (5 pts.), Ben Weaver, Luke Alexander and Dan LaLumiere (2 pts.) and Matt Hopkins (8 pts.). Alexander played his best defense to date, never giving up. David Anglin and Chris Poore supported their team with great hustle and solid defense. C.J. Sapong led the Cavs with 10 pts. and some athletic offensive play. Also scoring for the Cavs were Tim Guiden (6 pts.), Marcus Wiggins (2 pts.), Allen Windsor (7 pts.) and Jacob Norman (3 pts.). Both teams are commended for their outstanding team play; all together, 13 players put points on the board.

PANTHERS-56    HOKIES-46    2/25/02
In this very exciting game that extended into overtime, both Ishmael Sesay and Joel Davidson stepped up for their respective teams, scoring 31 and 28 pts. respectively. Despite an emphasis on strong defensive play, the Panthers were unable to contain the very determined Sesay, who went hard to the basket on many occasions. Sesay also made an outstanding effort under the boards, grabbing several rebounds, many off his own shots. Once again, however, it was the Panthers' 'Mr. Clutch', Matt Hopkins, who saved the day. After a costly foul late in the game that allowed Roger Leinenbach to put the Hokies a point ahead with only seconds to play, Hopkins (12 pts.) came back a few seconds later to draw a foul and make a free throw to tie the game and send it into overtime. To the Panthers fortune, Sesay fouled out in O.T., allowing the Panthers to pull ahead for the victory. Additional scorers for the Panthers were Jared Carter (5 pts.), Ben Weaver and Dan LaLumiere (4 pts.), Luke Alexander (2 pts.) and Chris Poore (1 pt.). Kyle Hutchinson again showed excellent court presence and David Anglin proved that he was willing to sacrifice his body for his team by setting some great picks. For the Hokies, both Leinenbach brothers played an great game. Roger (14 pts.) was very impressive on the foul line and under the boards with his assertive play. Despite being held scoreless, Brian contributed a great deal to his team's effort. His defense was outstanding and he provoked several turnovers by the Panthers with his relentless hustle. Mike Clarke scored a point for the Hokies. Special congratulations to Davidson and Sesay for their excellent offensive play and to Matt Hopkins for remaining calm under pressure and breathing life into his team. This was a great game!

PANTHERS-20    TIGERS-10     (1/23/02)
It wasn't pretty, but the Panthers were able to maintain their undefeated status with a win over the Tigers in this tough defensive battle.   The Tigers controlled the low post for entire first half of play which allowed them to dominate the boards and contain the Panthers main scoring threat, Joel Davidson.   Nonetheless, Davidson scored half of the Panthers points and regained his rebounding advantage in the second half of play.   Also doing a great job on the boards for the Panthers were Matt Hopkins (2 pts.) and Kyle Hutchinson.   Ben Weaver (2 pts.) displayed great court movement, as did Hopkins and David Anglin, and Jared Carter (6 pts.) did a great job at keeping the Panthers composed with his outstanding defense and ball handling.   Dan LaLumiere and Luke Alexander gave a great effort this game; special kudos to LaLumiere who played despite being down with the flu.   The Tigers executed their offense very well, but the shots were just not falling.   In the scoring column for them were Chris Douty (4 pts.), Mike Dickride (3 pts.), Todd Lawler (1 pt.) and Manan Desai (2 pts.).   Great team play by both teams!

Huskies 43    Wolfpack 40
NBA players watch out!   There is a new man in town by the name of Scott Downs (#10).   He was once again the main scorer for the Huskies.   Other scorers were Joshua Emert (#12), Matt McDaniel (#13), and Patrick Kirk (#11).   Both teams played great defense!   Huskies, Joshua Emert (#12), Ryan James (#22), Jonathan Moran (#32), Matt McDaniel (#13), and Lee Winske (#20).   For the Wolfpack, Joe Wirth (#10), Scooter Tyler (#21), Justin day (#22), and Corey Wiseman (#13).   Main scores for the Wolfpack were Travis Laugh (#14), Scooter Tyler (#21), and Harold Viscavia (#32).   But that did not hold the Huskies back.   They wanted to win so they played a strong and aggressive game with steals from Lee Winske (#20), Ryan James (#22), Joe Starr (#12), and Jonathan Moran (#32).   These boys helped get the ball down the court to help tie the game and put it into overtime.   With three minutes on the clock, both teams played hard!   The final score ended with Huskies winning 43-40.   Great job boys!

M-3 Cavaliers 22    M-9 Tigers 15     January 12, 2002
By playing a tight zone defense and a ball-control offense, the Tigers limited the high-scoring Cavaliers to just 22 points, which is their lowest total, by far, for the season.   At the end of three quarters, the well-coached Tigers lead the Cavaliers 13 - 10.   Then, in the fourth quarter, the Cavaliers broke out of their slump as Allen Windsor scored all 8 of his game-high points, six of which came on two long 3-point shots.   In the same quarter, Pope Panich, one of the smallest players on the floor, put back a rebound for two points, and Jacob Norman drove around a well-set pick to score on a layup.   Andrew Hanscome anchored the strong front line of the Cavaliers.   The Tiger had a balanced scoring attack with Chris Douty putting in 5 points and Mike Dickriede and Manan Desai contributing 4 points each.

PANTHERS-41    GOVERNORS-33     (1/12/02)
The Governors gave the Panthers their toughest fight this season, coming back in the second quarter to take a 1 pt. lead into halftime.   The Panthers fought back, however, and a big 3rd quarter helped them to get back on track and hold the lead until the end.   Joel Davidson had his highest scoring game to date, punching in 21 pts.   Davidson was also dominant on the boards and this, along with the unrelenting defensive play of Jared Carter (3 pts.) and Matt Hopkins (2 pts.), proved to be the difference in the game.   Carter and Hopkins were able to successfully shut down the Governors' Mike Tuteral, limiting him to 3 pts. from the foul line.   Ricky Windsor, however, was able to pick up the slack and keep his team in the game, scoring 17 pts.   Ben Weaver added some much-needed outside shooting for the Panthers, scoring 7 pts. (Weaver had a 3-pointer in the 2nd quarter, Windsor had a 3 late in the 4th quarter).   Kyle Hutchinson (4 pts.) and David Anglin (2 pts.) made an excellent effort on defense and Chris Poore added considerably to his team's effort by setting some effective picks.   Special kudos to Dan LaLumiere (2 pts.) for playing scrappy defense and continuing to show great improvement every game.   Also in the scoring column for the Governors were Owen (6 pts.), Joey Decesare (4 pts.) and Kevin Barrett with 3 pts.   Despite his lower-than-average point total, Mike Tuteral played an excellent game, showing outstanding effort in the paint and great hustle.

HOKIES 41    BLUE DEVILS 31     (1/12/02)
What a tough game fought by these two teams today, with the Hokies pulling away with the victory.   The game was led by Ishmael Sesay(#21) with game high 25 points.   Then Roger Leinenbach(#30) pushed in 9 points with a few big blocked shots.   Mike Clark(#20) added 6 points before fouling out in the last quarter.   To top off all the scoring was guard Brian Leinenbach.   The other side of the court was led by guard McGee(#11) with a hard fought 17 points.   Then Nelson(#22) picked up 5 points and Bohl(#10) landed 3 points and to end their scoring punch was Roller(#21) landing a 3 point bomb.   Other Hokie players with large rolls in the win were, John Baham(#41), Tim Stetts(#40), Jigar Patel(#31), Scotty Cornwell(#10), Dylan McIntosh(#51).   For the Blue Devils that played hard in the game were Grayson(#12), Jordan(#14), Buxton(#15), Rolles(#20).   A well played game for everyone!!

PANTHERS-32    HUSKIES-22     (1/10/2002)
Both teams put forth a solid defensive effort in this very competitive game in which two division leaders faced off against each other.   The Panthers pulled out to an early lead due to some hot shooting by Ben Weaver (4 pts.), but the Huskies came back and only 2 pts. separated the teams at halftime.   Jared Carter stepped up with some excellent defense, holding a very talented Scott Downs to 7 pts.   Carter also helped control the tempo of his game with his ball handling skills and added 4 pts. to the winning effort.   Joel Davidson made his presence known in the paint, scoring 12 pts. and grabbing several rebounds.   Matt Hopkins stepped up this game with 4 pts. and 2 steals.   Kyle Hutchinson (2 pts.) again played great defense as did Dan LaLumiere, who also scored 4 pts.   Chris Poore, David Anglin (2 pts.) and Luke Alexander also made a great effort with Poore and Anglin setting some strategic picks and Alexander playing good low post defense.   The Huskies are an excellent, well-rounded team with a lot of size and speed.   Also in the scoring column for the Huskies were Josh Emert (4 pts.), Matt McDaniel (4 pts.), Lee Winske (2 pts.) and Ryan James (5pts.).   Special kudos to James for his ball handling skills and McDaniel for a strong presence in the paint.
